KHYBER: All arrangements have been finalized to carry out a seven days long polio eradication campaign in Khyber to be scheduled on December 16, 2024.
In this connection polio eradication committee meeting was held in Khyber House,Peshawar last day, chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Khyber Capt(Retd)Bilal Shahid and was attended by District Police Officer(DPO)Rai Mazhar Iqbal,Addetional DC Ihsanullah,disitrct head of health department Dr Faisal,representatives of World Health Organization(WHO) and officials of concern departments.
The committee was apprised of the comprehensive eradication campaign including security measures, awareness drive, challenges, refusal of parents and other issues.
The district administration official urged all the stakeholders to leave no stone unturned to vaccinate children below five years.
He also stressed upon parents to assist the health officials and feed anti-polio vaccines to their children to free the country of the curse, polio as polio is a paralyzing disease that has no cure.
According to the health official, the seven days anti-polio drive will be started on December 16, 2024 and will continue on December 22, 2024.
Approximately 945 mobile, transit and fixed teams of health officials have been approved to vaccinate 0.210 million children below five years at their door steps.
As per the media reports so far 55 cases have been detected of poliovirus type 1 (WPVI)in Pakistan, comprising 26 from Baluchistan,14 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,13 from Sindh,and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.
