Islamabad: Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid, met Mr. Ghulam Nabi Marri, National Coordinator of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to explore options for providing livelihood opportunities through human resource training and transfer initiatives property.
Senator Rubina Khalid emphasized the need to strengthen the agricultural sector in all provinces with special focus on Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), especially in the merged districts. She emphasized the importance of a strong partnership between BISP and IFAD to maximize the benefits for BISP beneficiaries.
“BISP is committed to poverty alleviation of its beneficiaries. The skills training will not only improve their financial situation but also enable them to contribute to the country’s economy and enable more deserving individuals to benefit from the programme,” said Senator Rubina Khalid.
IFAD representatives appreciated BISP’s extensive database and provided financial and technical support for sustainable skills training and credit programs for BISP beneficiaries. Both parties agreed to cooperate and will discuss future modalities and a concept paper at the upcoming meeting.
