ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court has directed the authorities to prevent activist Sanam Javed from leaving Islamabad and also ordered them to produce her before the court at 5.30 pm.
The High Court also personally summoned IG Islamabad and DG FIA.
IHC judge Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb heard the plea of Sanam Javed’s father for her release. Counsel Mian Ali Ashfaq appeared before the court.
Ali Ashfaq alleged that the petitioner’s daughter was illegally detained from the law firm. He said yesterday a judge ordered her off the case.
The court was investigating whether or not another attorney general was present. Advocate General Islamabad appeared before the court.
Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq said yesterday my client was acquitted in 12th FIR. He said all cases are subject to court rulings. She was arrested on July 13 outside the Gujranwala jail, he informed the court.
The court inquired that she was arrested by the Islamabad police. Corresponding lawyer Ali Ashfaq said that after she was released from Gujranwala, she was arrested by FIA Islamabad.
Did the court ask about the current situation? Advocate General Islamabad was not informed about the arrest of Sanam Javed.
Later, the arrest of Sanam Javed was facilitated by the Islamabad Police, who assisted the Balochistan Police upon its request for assistance from the federal authorities.
Sanam Javed is wanted by Balochistan Police in a case of 2023. The case was registered at Bijli Police Station, Quetta under 15 sections, including terrorism.
After her arrest, Sanam Javed’s father, Javed Iqbal Khan, filed an application in the Islamabad High Court challenging the legality of her detention. The petition names the federal government, the FIA, the Islamabad police chief and others as parties and seeks several steps from the court.
The petition asks the court to order the immediate production of Sanam Javed in court and release him from his alleged illegal detention. It is also seeking details of all cases against her and calling for a stay of proceedings in those cases. The petition further argues that the process of her detention or abduction is declared illegal.
Sanam Javed’s legal team says her detention is unfair and demands transparency and due process in handling her case. The Islamabad High Court is expected to review the petition and issue further directions on the matter.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Islamabad District and Sessions Court dismissed the case against Sanam Javed, which was posted on tweets on social media platform X. Magistrate Malik Imran pronounced a reserved verdict on her remand.
The court accepted Sanam Javed’s lawyers’ request to be disqualified from the case.
In a surprising turn of events, a PTI activist was re-arrested on Sunday, just hours after he was acquitted by an Islamabad court on charges leveled by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). She was released from custody on Sunday after the court ruled in her favor. However, her freedom was short-lived as she was detained moments after she arrived at the office of her lawyer, Mian Ali Ashfaq.
Confirming the re-arrest on social media, Ashfaq said the Islamabad police had taken Ms Javed into custody. He stressed the importance of cooperation with law enforcement and said they handed it over without resistance.
