Port Moresby: More than 670 people are believed to have died in a landslide in a village in Papua New Guinea, a UN official told AFP on Sunday.
Serhan Aktoprak, a UN migration official, said: “It is estimated that more than 150 houses have been buried so far.”
“The situation is very bad with landslides. The water flows and it is a big risk associated with erosion,” said Aktoprak, who is based in Port Moresby.
More than 1,000 people have been displaced from what used to be a shanty town, with Octoprak saying that food farms and water supplies have been completely destroyed.
“People use sticks, knives, big garden forks to dig up bodies buried in the ground.”
