LAHORE: In view of the recent reduction in diesel prices, the Pakistan Railways Department has announced significant reductions in train fares in various classes.
The price reduction has been officially announced and is effective immediately.
The fare reduction is applicable for train journeys from one kilometer to 200 kilometers for all train classes and is beneficial for passengers traveling short distances. The most noticeable reduction is in economy class with air conditioning.
Economy class fares on some routes have been reduced by up to 54 percent, railway officials said. For example, the minimum fare for economy class on the Lahore Rawalpindi route has been reduced from Rs 250 to Rs 100. Similarly, the economy class of Khyber Mail, whose distance is from 1 km to 130 km, has been reduced by $250. Up to 100.
Passengers traveling in AC class also get a 40 percent discount on fares on some routes.
The move will come as a relief to daily commuters and occasional travelers who will benefit from cheaper train fares. The railway department stressed that the fare reduction is aimed at bringing the benefits of lower fuel costs to the public and making rail travel more convenient.
