US tech giant Google is all set to set up 50 smart schools in Pakistan’s federal capital and train youth through workshops for teachers, Google Career Certificates and public Google Referral Schools.
The Google for Education team, along with its local partner Tech Valley, met with the Secretary of the Federal Department of Education and Training to present the forward plan for Pakistan’s education sector.
About 50 smart schools in Islamabad will be equipped with 30,000 Google Education IDs, powered by AI, which include a set of digital experiences and tools to improve collaboration and productivity, the state news agency said.
Several initiatives were discussed at the meeting, including a workshop for teachers on Google Learning Tools, the creation of a public Google Reference School, job training for 2,000 young people through Google Career certification, and the possibility of collaboration in hosting. At least 50% of the program’s scholarships are earmarked exclusively for women to increase women’s access to economic opportunities and realize their aspirations. The program gives 44,500 scholarships in 2023 and 45,000 new scholarships in 2024 to give opportunities to more students.
The Google News Initiative (GNI) also trains young journalists with the support of local partners, allowing women to gain reporting experience and address the accessibility of newsrooms.
