During the visit, the Vice Chancellor addressed a large gathering of farmers and emphasized the importance of adopting modern agricultural practices to enhance wheat productivity and ensure sustainable food security. He highlighted that the Wheat Campaign aims to educate farmers about climate-smart cultivation techniques, efficient irrigation systems, and the balanced use of fertilizers to increase per-acre yield. He stressed that the university is committed to bridging the gap between research and practical application by providing hands-on training and field demonstrations to the farming community.

The Wheat Campaign 2025 has been rolled out across six districts of the Rawalpindi Division — Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Murree, and Talagang — with the active support of the Directorate of Agriculture Extension and under the guidance of Secretary Agriculture Punjab Mr. Iftikhar Ali Sahoo. Chairing a special meeting with vice chancellors of Punjab’s agricultural universities and the Director General Agriculture (Extension), Mr. Sahoo emphasized that all available resources should be mobilized to make the campaign effective, reiterating the government’s commitment to modernizing agriculture and ensuring food security through targeted outreach and farmer engagement.
Students and Faculty Drive Wheat Campaign 2025 in Potohar Region
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman highlighted the importance of wheat as a staple crop in the Potohar region, stressing the need for improved sowing techniques and best agronomic practices to achieve higher yields. To support this effort, 45 field teams comprising 450 students, supervised by agricultural experts and faculty members, have been deployed to farms across the division. These teams are providing on-site guidance on modern cultivation techniques, water management, soil fertility, and machinery use, bridging academia and the farming community while giving students valuable practical experience.
Officials See Wheat Campaign 2025 as National Imperative
Director Agriculture (Extension) Rawalpindi Syed Shahid Iftikhar Bukhari described the campaign as a strategic effort to strengthen the national economy, noting that increasing wheat production is not just an agricultural goal but a national imperative. Dean Faculty of Agriculture Prof. Dr. Tariq Mukhtar added that the initiative reflects a united front between government institutions and farmers, ensuring that science-based practices are adopted widely.
