Rawalpindi — Security forces successfully thwarted a cross-border infiltration attempt by a group of militants near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Bajaur District during the night of October 29–30, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The operation led to the elimination of four militants, including a high-value target identified as Amjad alias Mazahim, a senior commander and deputy to Noor Wali, head of the banned outfit Fitna al Khwarij. Amjad, who also served as chief of the group’s Rehbari Shura, was reportedly operating as part of an Indian proxy network. He had a bounty of PKR 5 million placed on him by Pakistani authorities due to his involvement in multiple terrorist activities while residing in Afghanistan.

According to ISPR, the group was attempting to infiltrate Pakistani territory to create the impression of a domestic presence and boost the morale of militants in Bajaur and Mohmand, which has been severely impacted by ongoing counter-terrorism operations. The military reiterated its call for the Interim Afghan Government to take decisive action to prevent Afghan soil from being used as a staging ground for terrorist activities against Pakistan.

This latest operation comes amid a series of intensified security actions under the national counter-terrorism initiative “Azm-e-Istehkam,” approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan. A sanitization operation is currently underway to clear the area of any remaining threats.

A Pattern of Precision and Persistence

The Bajaur operation is not an isolated event. It follows a string of successful engagements by Pakistan’s security forces in recent months, reflecting a broader strategy to dismantle foreign-sponsored terror networks operating along the western frontier.

Just last week, security forces neutralized two terrorists in North Waziristan’s Dossali area, as reported by The Public Purview. That operation, conducted on confirmed intelligence, targeted militants involved in attacks on security personnel and civilians. The swift response and elimination of threats underscored the military’s growing emphasis on intelligence-led operations.

Earlier in October, a major operation in Khyber District led to the killing of three terrorists, including a key facilitator linked to cross-border smuggling and arms trafficking. That engagement, too, highlighted the increasing use of Afghan territory as a safe haven for militants—a concern repeatedly voiced by Pakistani officials.

Reinforcing the Western Frontier

The Bajaur incident also echoes the September 2025 operation in South Waziristan, where security forces foiled an infiltration attempt and killed five militants, including a foreign national. That operation was part of a broader push to secure volatile border districts and prevent the resurgence of banned outfits.

In August, security forces conducted a high-impact raid in Balochistan’s Panjgur district, recovering weapons and explosives from a hideout linked to Indian-sponsored proxies. The ISPR had then emphasized the need for regional cooperation, urging neighboring countries to prevent their soil from being exploited by hostile elements.

A Call for Regional Accountability

The recurring theme across these operations is Pakistan’s insistence that Afghan soil must not be used to launch attacks against its territory. The Bajaur operation further validates this concern, as the slain commander Amjad was reportedly coordinating infiltration attempts from across the border.

Pakistan’s leadership has consistently called on the Interim Afghan Government to fulfill its responsibility under international norms and bilateral understandings. The ISPR’s statement following the Bajaur clash reiterated this demand, emphasizing that continued inaction could jeopardize regional peace and stability.

Unwavering Resolve

From Bajaur to Panjgur, the message from Pakistan’s security forces remains clear: there will be no compromise on national security. The ongoing operations under Azm-e-Istehkam reflect a strategic shift toward proactive engagement, intelligence-driven targeting, and regional accountability.

As the sanitization effort continues in Bajaur, the military has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to defending the nation’s borders and eliminating foreign-sponsored terrorism. The success of recent operations, including the elimination of high-value targets, signals a robust and coordinated response to evolving threats.

Pakistan’s security landscape remains complex, but the resolve of its forces—backed by public support and strategic clarity—continues to shape a more secure future.
