RAWALPINDI— In a decisive counter-terrorism operation, Pakistan’s security forces thwarted two major infiltration attempts by armed militants along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Kurram and North Waziristan districts on 24–25 October. The coordinated movements of two large groups of militants, identified as Khwarij and affiliated with the Indian-backed proxy outfit Fitna al Khwarij, were intercepted and neutralized in precision engagements.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), fifteen militants, including four suicide bombers, were killed in Spinwam, North Waziristan, while another ten were eliminated in Ghaki, Kurram District. A substantial cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives was recovered from the slain infiltrators.
The operation came at a time when Pakistan and Afghanistan are engaged in bilateral talks in Türkiye, raising serious concerns about the Afghan interim government’s commitment to curbing cross-border terrorism. Pakistan has repeatedly urged Afghan authorities to fulfill their obligations under the Doha Agreement and prevent the use of Afghan soil for hostile activities against Pakistan.
Tragically, the operation also claimed the lives of five Pakistani soldiers who fought valiantly in the line of duty. Havildar Manzoor Hussain (35, Ghizar), Sepoy Nauman Ilyas Kiyani (23, Poonch), Sepoy Muhammad Adil (24, Kasur), Sepoy Shah Jehan (25, Vehari), and Sepoy Ali Asghar (25, Pak Pattan) embraced martyrdom during intense fire exchanges. Their sacrifice has been hailed as a testament to the unwavering resolve of Pakistan’s armed forces.
ISPR emphasized that sanitization operations are ongoing to clear the area of any remaining threats. The campaign is part of the broader counter-terrorism initiative “Azm-e-Istehkam,” approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan. The initiative aims to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism and reinforce Pakistan’s internal security architecture.
Pakistan’s security forces reaffirmed their commitment to defending the nation’s borders and eradicating all forms of terrorism. The recent operation underscores the country’s determination to confront external threats and maintain regional stability amid rising tensions and proxy warfare.
