ISLAMABAD: In a powerful and emotionally charged press conference, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s CM Sohail Afridi, accused the federal authorities of obstructing his meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan despite clear judicial directives, terming it “a failure of institutional authority rather than the weakness of the people.”
Judicial Defiance and Institutional Breakdown
CM Sohail Afridi said that despite explicit court instructions, he had been consistently denied permission to meet his leader. “The continued defiance of judicial orders reflects not our frailty, but the judiciary’s inability to enforce its own decisions. The entire world is witnessing that judges are unable to ensure compliance with their rulings,” he remarked.
He warned that such disregard for judicial mandates raised grave concerns about the future of justice in Pakistan. “If our courts and judges cannot ensure the implementation of their own decisions, then as a nation, we must question the direction in which our state, our constitution, and our justice system are heading,” CM Sohail Afridi asserted.
Political Challenges Since Nomination
Recalling the political challenges he has faced since assuming the Chief Minister’s role, CM Sohail Afridi said, “From the day my nomination was announced, I have been systematically targeted. I was repeatedly told that I would not become the Chief Minister. Yet, I never sought to seize power through force. I represent over 40 million Pakhtuns, and I simply wish to meet my leader to seek policy guidance.”
Frustration Over Denied Access and Future Steps
Expressing frustration over prolonged restrictions, CM Sohail Afridi noted that it had been nearly two years since his last meeting with Imran Khan. “This meeting holds crucial importance for the province’s governance and political direction. I have pursued every lawful channel — from the Home Department and Federal Government to the Honourable Chief Justice — yet my fundamental right to meet my party leader has been denied,” he stated.
Announcing his next move, the Chief Minister said he would now take his case directly to the people. “Beginning tomorrow, I will reach out to the public and present my case before them. I will seek justice from the people — and when the people deliver their verdict, that will mark the true realization of justice in Pakistan, Insha’Allah.”
Political Tensions Intensify
CM Sohail Afridi’s sharp criticism of the federal authorities and his pointed remarks about the judiciary’s inability to enforce its orders have intensified political debate, highlighting growing friction between the provincial and federal governments.
