ISLAMABAD — In a major step toward modernizing Pakistan’s pharmaceutical trade, the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), in collaboration with Pakistan Single Window (PSW) and the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), hosted an awareness session focused on improving the drugs import clearance system through digital integration.
The session, titled “Introducing Pre-Import Release Order for Clearance of Drugs,” introduced participants to the newly integrated DRAP Clearance Gateway within the PSW platform. This reform aims to simplify and accelerate the drugs import process by replacing manual procedures with a streamlined digital workflow.
Led by the PSW team, the session provided detailed guidance on how pharmaceutical importers can now apply online for Pre-Import Release Orders (PIRO). DRAP Director Zeshan Nazir Bajar explained that the system enables digital submission of applications, online payments, and real-time tracking—making drugs import faster, more transparent, and more predictable.
“The integration with Pakistan Single Window is designed to enhance trade efficiency and reduce delays,” Bajar said. “Pharmaceutical businesses can now navigate the drugs import process with greater ease and compliance.”
ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood praised the initiative, calling it a milestone in Pakistan’s trade facilitation efforts. “By digitizing the drugs import clearance system, PSW and DRAP have reduced red tape and improved business convenience,” he said. “ICCI fully supports technology-driven reforms that promote a transparent and business-friendly environment.”
He emphasized that the pharmaceutical industry is not just a commercial sector but a strategic pillar of Pakistan’s public health and economy. Streamlining drugs import mechanisms will improve regulatory compliance, reduce port delays, and foster a safer, more competitive marketplace.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, allowing importers, traders, and clearing agents to share feedback and clarify concerns about the new digital process.
Domain Officer Umair Mahmood reiterated PSW’s mission to build a secure, transparent, and tech-driven trade ecosystem. Staff Business Analyst Maryam Saeed presented a live demonstration of the online PIRO procedure.
Business community representatives welcomed the reform and expressed confidence in its potential to align Pakistan’s drug import practices with global standards.
Notable attendees included ICCI Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub, Vice President Irfan Chaudhry, Executive Members Faisal Muzammal, Ch. Kalimullah, Atiqe ur Rehman, and others. Faisal Muzammal, Chairman of ICCI’s Pharmaceutical Standing Committee, played a key role in organizing the session and ensuring its success.
