Operation launched against illegal constructions along Swat River in Kalam valley of Swat

SWAT: On the directives of the Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and under the Good Governance Roadmap, the Upper Swat Development Authority (USDA), in collaboration with the district administration, has launched a major operation against illegal constructions along Swat River in Kalam, Tehsil Bahrain. During the operation, dozens of permanent and temporary encroachments were demolished.

According to USDA spokesperson Saeed ur Rehman, the operation was conducted under the special instructions of Director General USDA Shozeb Abbas and Deputy Commissioner Swat Saleem Jan Marwat. It was supervised by Assistant Commissioner of Bahrain and USDA Deputy Director Ahmad Sher Khan, with active support from district administration staff, USDA officials, local police, tourism police, and other relevant departments.

The spokesperson said that all illegal constructions along Swat River were completely removed to restore the river’s natural flow and beauty. He reminded the public that the Swat River is a national treasure and vital for the region’s ecosystem and tourism, stressing that its protection requires collective responsibility.

He further stated that all concerned parties had already been served legal notices and warned multiple times before the operation. He warned that any future encroachment or illegal construction would face strict legal action.

The Upper Swat Development Authority urged citizens to cooperate with the administration in protecting the environment, preserving natural beauty, and promoting sustainable tourism in the region.
