LIAQUATPUR: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Clean Punjab program has reportedly turned into a source of corruption. The contractor ignored government orders to pay sanitary workers Rs 37,000. Instead, he paid only Rs 22,000.
Rather than collecting garbage and solid waste, he allegedly weighed soil-filled trolleys and dumped them at the landfill site. This act openly violates government orders and the signed agreement. It has become clear evidence of corruption within the system.
Deputy Commissioner Rahim Yar Khan Khurram Pervez ordered an immediate inquiry. Acting on his directions, Assistant Commissioner Liaquatpur Muhammad Ibrahim Miladi Khar sought the contractor’s salary and landfill records from the last three months.
The Assistant Commissioner said he is collecting both documentary proof and video statements from the staff. Once the evidence is compiled, the administration will start a formal investigation. He added that ensuring workers receive their due rights under the Clean Punjab program is the government’s top priority. No compromise will be made on this issue.
Despite repeated notices, the contractor of the Bahawalpur Waste Management Company remains defiant. The District Council of Rahim Yar Khan demanded the record on September 17. The Assistant Commissioner issued another notice on September 26. Yet, the contractor has ignored both letters and refused to submit the documents.
Angry citizens have now urged Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to intervene. They demanded she take strict action against the contractor’s stubbornness and cancel the agreement. Locals also called for transparent monitoring of Clean Punjab program projects across Punjab to stop the misuse of public funds.
