Islamabad: A meeting was held at the Ministry of National Health Services Regulation and Coordination (NHSR&C) under the leadership of Federal Secretary NHSR&C, Iftikhar Ali Shallwani to review the progress made in Pakistan’s National Health Promotion Project for providing Health Coverage in the Federated Areas . The meeting was attended by representatives of World Bank (WB), Manav Bhattari, representative of Global Financing Facilities (GFF), Ghazna Siddiqui and Director of Programs M/o NHSR & C, Dr. Maryam Sarfraz.
Pakistan National Health Promotion Project for Universal Health Coverage in Federated Territories is a three-year project implemented by NHSR & C through the Health Departments of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), Gilgit Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The project is aimed at strengthening the health system, building basic capacity and implementing the Basic Package of Health Services (EPHS) in ICT and three counties in UK and AJK to provide basic health services to the public.
WB and GFF representatives assured the ministry of their organizations’ continued support in implementing the project to improve universal health coverage (UHC), especially in underserved and rural areas.
The Federal Secretariat (M/o NHSR & C) said the project will ensure basic health services to communities and improve the overall condition of primary health centers in the target regions. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project. He also directed the concerned officials to utilize all necessary resources to expedite the implementation of the project so that the people of ICT, AJK and GB can start reaping the benefits of the project as soon as possible.
