ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir on Wednesday called on newly elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif – their first meeting since Shehbaz assumed office.
Important matters including national security were discussed in the meeting, a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.
Issues related to operational matters of Pakistan Army and defense situation were also discussed.
The army chief also congratulated the prime minister on his newly assumed post and expressed his best wishes, the PMO statement added.
COAS presents the state-of-the-art HAIDER tank at Taxile Heavy Industries
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir graced Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) with his presence on Wednesday and presided over the launch ceremony of HAIDER Tank (Pilot Project), the Army said.
Held at a prestigious military installation, the ceremony marked a major milestone in Pakistan’s defense indigenization efforts, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
The event was attended by key dignitaries, including the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, representatives of the Chinese state-owned company NORINCO, senior officials of the Government of Pakistan and the Pakistan Army, and various military and civilian officials from HIT.
At the ceremony, HIT proudly unveiled the HAIDER tank, the product of a joint effort between NORINCO China and several industries in Pakistan. According to the ISPR, the HAIDER tank represents a leap forward in tank fighting capabilities, boasting cutting-edge technology and remarkable fire, protection and maneuverability.
Created using state-of-the-art advanced technologies, HAIDER is a testament to Pakistan’s defense industry’s relentless pursuit of excellence in defense innovation. The COAS was briefed in detail on the technical capabilities of the HAIDER tank and the strides made in achieving indigenization in armaments and armaments.
General Munir expressed his admiration for the technical prowess of the HAIDER tank and appreciated the collaborative efforts that went into its development. The COAS also visited other manufacturing plants within the heavy industrial complex where he appreciated the commitment of the officers and employees to achieve the next technological milestone.
General Munir was warmly received by the HIT Chairman upon his arrival and further emphasized the importance and support of leadership in developing indigenous defense capabilities.
The launch of the HAIDER tank not only marks a significant achievement for HIT but also underlines the growing cooperation between Pakistan and China in the field of defense technology.
