ISLAMABAD: In an unprecedented move, on Thursday that Ijaz Ul Ahsan, the chief justice, has resigned, making him the second most senior judge on the Supreme Court.

There are concerns regarding Ahsan’s premature retirement as he submitted his resignation to President Arif Alvi, positioning him to succeed CJP Qazi Faez Isa as Pakistan’s next chief justice.
The significant development occurs just one day after Justice (retd) Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi resigned; the president has also accepted Naqvi’s resignation.
