ISLAMABAD, Mar 27 (ABC): A major education rehabilitation programme worth $302.5 million is underway to reconstruct 722 schools destroyed during the 2022 floods in Sindh.

According to documents available with Wealth Pakistan, under the Sindh Secondary Education Improvement Project – Additional Financing (SSEIP-AF), schools will be rebuilt with climate-resilient infrastructure and upgraded to meet modern learning environment standards.

The programme covers five flood-hit districts, including Khairpur, Naushehro Feroze, Qambar Shahdadkot, Larkana and Dadu.

According to the document, 722 fully damaged schools will be reconstructed, and 528 of them will also be upgraded from primary to elementary and secondary levels.

Contracts for the reconstruction work have been awarded in multiple packages covering more than 600 schools, with construction activities set to begin gradually after site possession and soil investigations are completed.

According to project updates, design work is partially complete, and execution activities have begun, while the design phase is expected to be finalized soon.

The reconstruction programme is expected to be completed between December 2026 and January 2027.
