Bahawalpur: Recent floods have submerged 60 villages in Bahawalpur district, prompting full-scale emergency response from the district administration and related agencies.
In a media briefing, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Farhan Farooq told that over 42,000 people and 25,000 livestock have been relocated to safer areas. To assist the flood victims, 27 flood relief camps have been set up, providing food, shelter, and medical aid. He said that Medical services include 26 mobile clinics and an operational field hospital. Additionally, 82 government and private schools in affected areas have been closed due to flooding. Dr. Farhan said that the Punjab government has released Rs.50 million in emergency funds for relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Railways Mian Usman Najeeb Owaisi, warned that the Panjnad area is at high risk of further flooding and urged the public to cooperate with evacuation plans.
District Police Officer Muhammad Hassan Iqbal stated that, following instructions from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, police personnel have been deployed to secure all relief camps and ensure the safety of affected residents.
