The textile industry has suffered a significant blow due to expensive electricity and business difficulties, with 33% of textile industry units in the country being shut down.
According to documents available to Private TV, out of Pakistan’s 568 textile mills, 187 have been closed, with the highest number of mills shut down in Punjab. In Punjab, 147 textile mills have closed, while 54 mills have been shut down in Sindh and Balochistan, and 6 mills in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The documents further revealed that 47 mills have closed in Kasur, 33 in Multan, 31 in Faisalabad, 11 in Sheikhupura, and 17 in Sahiwal.
Sources indicated that the closure of these mills is due to the high cost of electricity, along with the challenging economic situation.
