FAISALABAD: A court in Faisalabad has sentenced a Health Department employee to 29 years in prison in a case involving a fake MBBS degree.
According to ARY News, the Special Judge Anti-Corruption Court handed down the sentence to Aslam Anjum, who had obtained employment in the Health Department using a fraudulent MBBS degree.
The report stated that the MBBS degree submitted by the accused had originally been issued in the name of another student.
The Anti-Corruption Establishment had registered a case against Aslam Anjum in 2009 over the alleged use of the fake degree.
The case highlights the legal consequences of using fraudulent educational credentials to secure government employment.
The development comes amid a wider focus on alleged irregularities involving academic qualifications. The report also referred to a separate case at Gomal University, where 514 degrees were reportedly identified as suspicious during an initial inquiry.
According to the report, recommendations were made for the cancellation of the 514 degrees, while disciplinary action was initiated against officials allegedly linked to the matter.
The university’s former Director Affiliations was reportedly suspended following a Syndicate decision, while disciplinary action was also decided against a former Controller Examinations in connection with the fake-degree case.
