Chakwal (Samandar Khan): Police have registered a murder case following the mysterious death of a 29-year-old man found strangled near Arar Pond along the Kacha Road, Khokhar Zer–Shamsabad, early Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Hamza Farooq, son of Muhammad Farooq, a resident of Khokhar Zer belonging to the Mughal Qasr community. According to police, Hamza had returned from Saudi Arabia about nine months ago and had been living at home since his return.

The case was lodged on the complaint of Muneeb Ahsan, son of Tufail Ahmed, who is the deceased’s cousin. In his statement to the police, Muneeb said that Hamza was on friendly terms with three men — Mohsin Ali, Shariq, and Muhammad Shahbaz.

According to the complaint, on October 11, Mohsin and Shariq, accompanied by another 16-year-old individual named Shaheer, son of Rizwan Haider of Dhoke Feroz, visited Hamza’s home. They allegedly asked Hamza to arrange a place where they could commit an immoral act with Shaheer. Hamza reportedly refused, after which the group left.

The following evening, October 12, Hamza met Muneeb and appeared visibly distressed. He confided that an FIR had been registered at City Police Station Chakwal against him, Mohsin, and Shariq, and said he planned to stay at Shahbaz’s residence in Khai village. Hamza told his cousin that his phone would remain switched off, but he would stay in touch through WhatsApp.

Muneeb further stated that on October 13, he was contacted by Zaigham Shah, son of Najam-ul-Hassan of Shamsabad, who invited him to his dera. Upon reaching there, Muneeb found Mohsin and Shariq also present. They discussed trying to reach a compromise with Hamza. Muneeb said his final WhatsApp contact with Hamza was around 10 a.m. that morning, when Hamza informed him he was still with Mohsin, Shariq, and Shahbaz at Khai.

The next morning, at about 6:20 a.m., Muneeb received a call from his uncle, Younas, who informed him that Hamza’s body had been found lying near Arar Pond along the Ronda Khokhar Zer–Shamsabad road. Hamza’s Honda 125 motorcycle was parked nearby.

Upon reaching the scene, Muneeb discovered his cousin’s body bearing clear rope marks around the neck and blood on the mouth and lips, suggesting that he had been strangled to death. Police were informed and reached the site shortly after, collecting forensic evidence and shifting the body to the hospital for post-mortem examination.

Muneeb alleged that Hamza had been murdered by Mohsin Ali, Shariq, Shahbaz, and Zaigham Shah, possibly with the help of unidentified accomplices. He claimed that Hamza had been in the company of the accused for the past three days, which raised strong suspicion about their involvement.

Police have registered a case under Sections 302 (murder), 147 (rioting), and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against the nominated suspects and launched an investigation.

A police spokesperson said further inquiry is underway and arrests are expected soon. The motive behind the killing is yet to be determined.
