Swat: A total of 230 people, including 169 men and 61 women, were killed in various incidents across Swat district during 2025, while 11 cases of honour killings and nine suicides were reported, police officials confirmed.
According to Swat Police spokesperson Nasir Iqbal, 186 murder cases were registered at police stations across the district during the year. In these cases, 362 suspects were nominated, including 334 men and 28 women, while 552 suspects remain at large, with efforts underway to apprehend them.
Police officials said that although terrorism-related incidents declined in 2025, the district witnessed several targeted killings. On May 11, Awami National Party leader and village council chairman Fatah Ullah Khan was shot dead along with an associate in the Ningolai area of Kabal tehsil. On September 9, ANP leader and former nazim Jafar Khan was targeted in Kalaklay village of Kabal tehsil. On October 14, Levies constable Abdul Kabeer, deployed on polio duty in Arkot, tehsil Matta, was martyred. On November 12, ANP leader Mumtaz Ali Khan survived a bomb attack on his vehicle in the Shakardara area of Matta tehsil.
District Police Officer Swat, Muhammad Omar Khan, said police conducted organised operations throughout the year to maintain law and order, resulting in the arrest of 542 wanted criminals involved in serious offences.

He said operations against drug dealers and smugglers led to the arrest of 2,055 individuals, from whom 355 kilograms of hashish, 12 kilograms of heroin, eight kilograms of ice (crystal meth), and 2,134 litres of liquor were recovered.
Under the National Action Plan, police arrested 1,321 suspects for possession of illegal weapons, recovering 44 Kalashnikovs, 186 rifles, 65 shotguns, 1,533 pistols, 33,044 rounds of ammunition, 65 daggers, six hand grenades, 10 mortars, and 19 kilograms of explosives, the DPO added.
Police also reported multiple arrests in theft-related cases, recovering 104 motorcycles, 20 cars, and 20 other vehicles from suspects. An amount of Rs179,967,270 was recovered from those involved in theft and related crimes.
“To ensure public safety, preventive action was taken against 31,538 individuals, while operations were conducted against 11,896 vagrants,” the DPO said. He added that 362 suspects in murder cases were sent to jail, while 1,290 people were arrested under the Renters Act, 108 under the Sensitive Places Act, and 88 for aerial firing.
DPO Muhammad Omar Khan said Swat Police were utilising all available resources to maintain peace, apprehend criminals, and ensure public safety, adding that operations against criminal elements would continue. He urged citizens to promptly report suspicious or dangerous activities to enable timely action.
