At least 22 people were injured when a passenger coaster crashed near Chakdara on the Swat Expressway, motorway police said on Wednesday.

The vehicle was travelling from Madin to Peshawar when the accident occurred. Rescue teams provided immediate medical assistance to the injured at the scene.

Several passengers were later shifted to Batkhela Hospital and Mardan Medical Complex for further treatment. Authorities did not immediately provide details about the condition of the injured.

Preliminary findings suggested that the coaster’s brakes failed, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, according to motorway police.

Officials said further investigation was underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
