South African batter Lhuan-dre Pretorius has broken Chris Gayle’s long-standing record for the highest individual score in men’s T20 cricket.
The 20-year-old left-handed opener smashed an unbeaten 188 off just 79 balls while representing the Titans against the Knights in South Africa’s domestic CSA T20 Challenge.
Pretorius’ explosive innings included 15 fours and 13 sixes, leaving him just 12 runs short of becoming the first batter to score a double century in T20 cricket, according to the supplied report.
His 188 surpassed the previous record held by West Indies great Chris Gayle, who scored an unbeaten 175 for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India in the 2013 Indian Premier League.
Pretorius’ remarkable knock therefore set a new benchmark for the highest individual score in men’s T20 cricket.
