ATTOCK (Ms. Bokhari): Authorities successfully foiled wheat smuggling from Punjab to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when police and food department teams intercepted 20 trucks at the CPEC interchange near Tehsil Fateh Jang, District Attock. This operation shows the government’s commitment to stopping illegal wheat trade and protecting local markets.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Attock personally oversaw the operation. He instructed teams to secure all seized trucks and emphasized that no wheat will leave Punjab illegally. He also ordered that authorities sell the confiscated wheat at official rates to prevent hoarding and black-market profiteering.

Police and food department officials coordinated closely, inspecting each truck thoroughly. They discovered that smugglers planned to sell large stockpiles at inflated prices. Such illegal trade could have raised costs for local consumers and disrupted food security across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The District Food Controller (DFC) received the wheat and immediately organized distribution through government channels. Local traders praised the swift action, stating that these measures are essential for keeping prices fair, stabilizing markets, and ensuring supplies reach those in need.

Experts note that wheat smuggling from Punjab to neighboring provinces has risen due to price differences and growing demand. Authorities warned they will maintain strict surveillance and conduct frequent checks along highways and trade routes to prevent further attempts.

In addition, the DC ordered a thorough review of border and interchange monitoring systems. This step will enhance coordination between law enforcement and food authorities, ensuring quicker responses to illegal activity. Citizens were also urged to report any suspicious movement of wheat to assist authorities.

This decisive operation sends a strong message: the government will continue to foil wheat smuggling. By actively monitoring, seizing, and distributing smuggled wheat, authorities aim to maintain stability in the wheat market, protect public interests, and prevent black-market manipulation. Such actions are crucial for safeguarding essential food supplies nationwide.
