ISLAMABAD, September 2, 2026: Sixteen officers of Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) have been identified as holding foreign citizenship or permanent residency status, according to an official document cited in a report.
The document states that the officers include 10 from the Inland Revenue Service and six from the Pakistan Customs Service. Among them, 10 officers in Grade 20 reportedly hold dual citizenship or green cards, while five Grade 19 officers also have dual citizenship.
The disclosure comes as government officers have been required to declare any foreign citizenship or permanent residency status under applicable rules.
FBR Officers Asked to Declare Foreign Status
According to the document, government officials were required to disclose details of any foreign citizenship or permanent residency, including possession of a green card.
Officials had been instructed to submit details of their dual citizenship by July 8. However, the document indicates that several officers had not submitted their declarations even after the deadline had passed.
The requirement covers disclosure of foreign nationality, permanent residency and other relevant immigration status.
Non-Declaration May Be Treated as Misconduct
The document further states that providing incorrect information or failing to submit the required declaration may be considered misconduct.
The disclosure requirement is intended to ensure that government officials’ foreign citizenship or permanent residency interests are formally recorded.
The document does not, by itself, establish that the officers identified have committed any wrongdoing. The issue concerns the declaration of foreign citizenship or permanent residency and compliance with the applicable disclosure requirement.
What the Disclosure Means
The reported figures involve officers serving in two major FBR services responsible for tax administration and customs functions.
The FBR is Pakistan’s principal federal tax authority, overseeing the collection and administration of federal taxes and customs duties. Disclosure of foreign citizenship or permanent residency is therefore a matter of administrative and regulatory compliance for officers covered by the relevant rules.
Further action, if any, would depend on the applicable rules and the status of individual declarations.
