WAH CANTT: A total of 1,554 college students from 26 educational institutions participated in the 9th COMSATS Mathematical Olympiad (CMO) 2026 at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Wah Campus, in a competition designed to promote mathematical thinking, analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.

The academic competition attracted strong interest, with 1,700 students registering for the event and 1,554 appearing in the main test. Students from colleges in different cities participated, highlighting the growing interest in the Olympiad as a platform for developing mathematical talent among college students.

Preparatory and counselling sessions were conducted from February 10 to 13 ahead of the main competition. The sessions provided participants with guidance and helped strengthen their analytical and problem-solving skills.

The competition required an additional round after several top-performing students finished with equal scores. To determine the final positions fairly, organisers conducted a re-test involving the top 74 students.

Organisers said the Olympiad was intended not only to identify high-performing students but also to encourage mathematical inquiry, logical reasoning and academic excellence among young learners.

Cash prizes were awarded to the top three position holders, while students securing positions from first to 10th will receive Certificates of Distinction in recognition of their performance and participation.

The organisers appreciated the students, participating colleges, teachers and others whose efforts contributed to the successful organisation of CMO 2026.
