DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least 11 people were killed and more than 30 others injured in a suspected suicide blast at the Aman Mela police check post in the Darazinda area of Dera Ismail Khan on Saturday, according to initial reports.
The explosion occurred on the Dera Ismail Khan–Quetta Road, where an explosives-laden vehicle reportedly rammed into the anti-smuggling check post, triggering a powerful blast.
Initial reports said the deceased included six police personnel, two Customs officials, two women and a two-year-old child.
More than 30 people, including police personnel, Customs officials and civilians, were reportedly injured in the explosion. Some of the injured were said to be in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll could increase.
Rescue teams reached the site and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. Security forces and law-enforcement personnel also arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
The blast took place at a checkpoint involved in anti-smuggling operations. Initial accounts have described the incident as a suspected suicide attack, while the circumstances and those responsible are subject to investigation.
Authorities have yet to issue a complete official account of the casualties and the identity of those behind the attack.
