A 106-year-old man from China’s Zhejiang province has attracted attention for his unconventional daily routine, remarkable independence and an 80-year marriage that made him a well-known figure in his community.
Wang Dianguo, from Rui’an in Zhejiang, reportedly continues to handle many of his daily activities himself despite his advanced age. Unlike most people, he follows an unusual sleep and meal schedule and remains active in everyday life.
An Unusual Daily Routine
Wang reportedly goes to sleep around 4 or 5 p.m. and wakes at about 1 a.m. He has breakfast around 3 a.m. before heading out for a walk.
His son has also adopted parts of his father’s unusual routine, waking early each day to prepare breakfast.
Wang continues to wash his own clothes, bathe independently and do sewing work. His diet is described as simple, with seafood featuring prominently in his meals.
His Perspective on Longevity
In an interview, Wang attributed his long life to what he described as a positive mindset, strong family traditions, a willingness to work and a desire to keep learning.
Although he received only around four years of formal education, his curiosity encouraged him to acquire practical knowledge and develop skills throughout his life.
At a young age, Wang was selected to work as a village cashier. During that period, he observed people around him and learned cooking and various other practical skills.
An 80-Year Marriage
Wang and his wife, Hong Yelian, were married for 80 years and had one son. Four generations of the family now live together in the same household.
People in their community reportedly regarded the couple as a model of family harmony. When disputes arose between families, residents would sometimes seek their advice to help resolve conflicts.
According to their son, his mother had a quick temper while his father was gentle and calm.
When Hong became angry, Wang reportedly avoided arguing. Instead, he would quietly offer her a glass of water and smile, saying, “Drink some water first, then get angry.” His approach would often help calm her down.
Life After His Wife’s Death
After Hong Yelian died, Wang became withdrawn and struggled emotionally. With support from his son, however, he gradually began reconnecting with everyday life.
His story has drawn attention not only because of his age, but also because of his independence, lifelong curiosity and the family relationships that shaped much of his life.
