LONDON: Surrey resident Sam Bodiano has completed a 62-mile (100-kilometre) run from Lord’s Cricket Ground in north London to Valley End Cricket Club in Woking in an attempt to set a new record for the longest cricket bowling run-up.
Bodiano began the challenge on Saturday and completed the distance in around 14 hours, arriving at Valley End Cricket Club on Sunday. After reaching the ground, he bowled the opening delivery of the match to his father.
Challenge Raises £6,000 for Cancer Charity
The unusual challenge also raised around £6,000 for The Ruth Strauss Foundation, a cancer charity supporting families affected by the death of a parent.
To meet the proposed record requirements, Bodiano had to run continuously while wearing full cricket clothing and carrying a cricket ball. He was also required to take part in the match after completing the final delivery of the challenge.
Guinness Confirmation Still Pending
Despite completing the 100km distance, Guinness World Records has not yet officially confirmed whether the attempt qualifies as a new record.
The organisation is expected to take around two weeks to review the evidence submitted for the attempt.
The current record is held by Tom Dunn, who ran 24 kilometres in 2024 to complete the previous longest cricket run-up record.
