Sanaa: Britain and the United States have launched strikes on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, the Huthi rebels’ news agency reported Tuesday, after the group claimed to have hit a US military cargo ship.
According to the official Saba news agency, “American-British forces are launching raids on the capital of Sanaa” and numerous other locations of Yemen, while Huthi TV source al-Masirah reported four strikes on the rebel-controlled Al-Dailami military facility north of the capital.
Earlier on Monday, Huthi rebels claimed they had attacked a US military cargo ship off the coast of Yemen, but the US denied any strike had occurred.
Yemeni rebels began attacking Red Sea cargo in November, claiming they were attacking Israeli-linked vessels in support of Palestinians in Gaza, which has been devastated by violence during the Hamas-Israel conflict.
The United States, an Israeli ally, has replied to the Huthis’ strikes by unleashing a series of airstrikes against the rebel organization, targeting dozens of facilities in Yemen.
