Mardan: The Board of Directors (BoD) of Water and Sanitation Services Company Mardan (WSSCM) has approved special cleanliness and awareness campaign across 14 urban union councils. The Bod approved the hiring contract for provision of manpower and sanitation vehicles to WSSCM. A meeting held under the chairmanship of chairman Engineer Adil Nawaz while members Javed Hussain, Haroon Rashid, Mubina Raziuddin, CEO Shahid Khan and CFO Naveed Akhtar attended the meeting while Additional Secretary Local Government Noor Wali Khan and Budget Officer Finance Department Qazi Zia ur Rahman participated in the meeting through Zoom. The board highlighted critical sanitation issues stemming from staffing and resource shortages after the devolution of Ex-BoD.
The BoD approved the hiring contract to address the challenges and improve both sanitation and clean drinking water supplies in Mardan city.
The Board has been briefed that the company bears Rs: 2400 per month on each water supply connection however the consumers have been charged on Rs: 210 per month but the recovery of the water bills is not up to the mark as less than 50% consumers pay their water bills to the company. The Electricity bills are at a hike causing an increased pressure on company’s expenditures.
Chairman BoD Engineer Adil Nawaz directed the management of the company to carry out water quality tests at sources, distribution network and consumer end to ensure provision of clean drinking water to the residents of urban Mardan.
He emphasized the importance of Solarization of the Tube wells to control and minimize the increased electricity bills of Tube wells and operational costs.
He stressed that elected representatives including the community elders of all the Urban Union Councils may be engaged to start a special cleanliness and awareness campaign to ensure the provision of a waste free and clean environment to the residents. He urged that beside than many financial constraints the company is still committed to provide improved sanitation services to the citizens and requested the community to extend their cooperation with the company to strive for a clean and waste free Mardan.
