BIRMINGHAM: West Indies suffered a heavy defeat in their Test series against England in the third match at Edgbaston on Sunday, but coach Andre Coley said there were significant positives to take from the tour.
The West Indies team has just a few days off before reconvening in Trinidad to prepare for the start of the two-Test series against South Africa next week.
“With a young team coming in, there would be a lot to be said for it being a transition,” Coley said of the series against England.
“Obviously we should have competed better, but we showed a lot of fight during the series.
“From a batting point of view, I was very happy with our scoring rate, pace, especially in the second Test,” the coach said.
As for the bowlers, Coley said England’s conditions caught the young attack a lot about adjusting their lengths and handling crowd pressure.
“That was a significant positive to take from this series as we approach the series in South Africa,” he added.
The first Test against South Africa starts in Port of Spain on August 7, the second Test in Guyana from August 15-19.
Coley said focusing on the future is “a process.”
“But one thing you can have some control over is going through your processes every day to give yourself the best chance to perform.”
West Indies have won two of their last 11 Tests and are at home for the first time in over a year since losing two Tests to India.
