A report has surfaced claiming that former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was allegedly poisoned in Russia in an attempt on his life.
According to foreign media, 59-year-old Bashar al-Assad sought medical assistance in Moscow after experiencing severe coughing and difficulty breathing. His treatment took place in his apartment.
Reports suggest that various tests confirmed the presence of poison in his system. However, Assad’s condition is now reportedly improving. Neither Russian officials nor sources close to the former Syrian president have issued any statement regarding the poisoning allegations.
Bashar al-Assad had fled with his family to Russia before opposition groups seized control of the Syrian capital, Damascus. Russia has granted asylum to Assad and his family on humanitarian grounds. Meanwhile, his wife is reportedly critically ill and undergoing cancer treatment.
