Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated Sheikh Waqas Akram to replace Sher Afzal Marwat as chairman of the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), sources said.
According to sources, the political committee will inform PTI founder Imran Khan about the decision to withdraw Marwat’s name for the post of PAC chairman.
PTI General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan and Senator Shibli Faraz have called a political committee meeting to withdraw Marwat’s name, sources said, suggesting Akram’s name be replaced.
Asad Qaiser, Sheharyar Afridi, Shandana Gulzar and Zulfi Bukhari said they supported Marwat.
However, regarding the development, Marwat said that he was not invited or discussed in the political committee meeting.
The 53-year-old politician from Lakki Marwat is known for his harsh and controversial remarks.
He also argued with party members and others over differing views and comments.
On April 30, PTI founder Barrister Gohar Ali Khan announced that his party had finalized Marwat’s name for the PAC chairman based on the PTI founder’s recommendation.
“After the party chose Marwat’s name, all debates are over,” the PTI leader told reporters in Rawalpindi.
