WASHINGTON: The top US diplomat for Latin America said on Wednesday that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro had lost by a landslide to opponent Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, bolstering a vote count released by the opposition, as Venezuela’s election body did not release detailed results.
Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) has yet to release a detailed breakdown of votes to back Sunday’s election to Maduro, despite calls from the opposition and many nations in the region and elsewhere.
They know the actual results prove Edmundo Gonzalez clearly won the election.” and Maduro’s CNE needs time to prepare falsified results to support its false claim.”
Meanwhile, the opposition has published tens of thousands of voting results, known as “actas”, online.
“They are real Venezuelan voices,” Nichols said.
“The tabulation of these detailed results clearly shows a conclusive result: Edmundo Gonzalez won with 67 percent of those votes compared to 30 percent for Maduro.
“Although not a total, there are not enough votes in the remaining tally tables … to overcome such a deficit,” he said.
