GUYANA: Former England captain Michael Vaughan on Thursday ruled that there is an impact on the 2024 World T20 World Cup semi-final schedule.
The former right-hander said the scheduling of the first semi-final between Afghanistan and South Africa in Trinidad was wrong.
“So Afghanistan qualified for the WC [World Cup] semi-final in Vincent on Monday night .. 4 hours flight delay on Tuesday, no time to adjust or adapt to the new pitch .. the players really have no respect,” said Vaughan on X, formerly known as Twitter.
He also alleged that India was given an unfair advantage throughout the tournament.
“Obviously it [Afghanistan vs. South Africa] should be Guyana’s half, but it’s unfair to the others because the whole story is centered on India.”
The second semi-final of the World Cup will be played today in Guyana between India and England. However, the rain is damaging.
According to Weather.com, there is a 60% chance of rain forecast for match day in Guyana, reducing the chances of a full match. The chance of rain starts at 10:30 local time at the start of the game and increases to 59% by 13:00. As a result, players and fans may be disappointed, a cut-and-dry game is expected.
A reserve day has been set for the first semi-final, but not for the second day. However, the ICC allowed a total of 250 minutes of extra time for the semi-finals to facilitate the completion of the match. This will give grounds crews enough time to prepare the site, weather permitting.
If the result is a draw, the team with the highest score in the Super 8 group will advance to the final. Therefore, India is in a better position than England because they have won all their matches and finished in position 1 in the Super 8 group, while England is in second position with two wins from three matches.
