Tashkent: Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyev said on Friday that the project of a railway line passing through Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan will facilitate economic integration in the region.
Speaking at the “Third Tashkent International Investment Forum” held in the capital of Uzbekistan, President Mirziyoyev said that preliminary work related to the construction of the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan railway is underway.
He also spoke about the work begun by foreign partners on the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.
Calling these strategic projects, he said, “We will radically change the geo-economy of the region and transform Central Asia into a global transit hub connecting North and South, East and West.”
He said that Uzbekistan invites investors and international organizations to participate in this important regional project to restore the “Great Silk Road” in a modern way.
The President of Uzbekistan said that important reforms were carried out in the railway sector, wide opportunities were opened for private investors, and a joint project was developed to build highways and high-speed railways.
President Shavkat Mirziyev said that the “New Uzbekistan” is a fast-growing, just and secular country with wide opportunities.
“By 2030, our goal is to double the income of the people and join the ranks of middle-income countries. We will continue the deep changes in the economy, create a favorable investment and business environment, and increase the added value. industry,” he said.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that in recent years, the economy of Uzbekistan has almost doubled in the last year alone, the growth rate has reached 6 percent, inflation is below 9 percent, and trade turnover continues to increase.
He said, the government highly respects the development of infrastructure in industrial areas through APBD funds and has introduced a modern and transparent mechanism for allocating land for entrepreneurs, which is through auctions.
He said that the document will adopt a new law on investment, developed in accordance with the rules and standards of the World Trade Organization.
“We have adopted the strategy of “Uzbekistan-2030″ to continue cultural reforms and build a strong and prosperous state,” he said.
“The government of Uzbekistan has identified 100 specific tasks to achieve sustainable economic development, ensure social protection, health care, improve the education system and ensure the rule of law.”
Mirziyev said that 28 energy projects are being implemented in Uzbekistan, and by 2030, “we aim to create more than 20 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity and increase its share in the energy balance to 40 percent.”
He invited investors to participate in hydropower development projects in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
