WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden has wished Pakistan and its newly elected government the best of luck in a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif – the first official correspondence from the head of state in years.
In his letter, Biden said that the partnership between the people of the two countries is essential to ensure the security of the region and the entire world, and assured that the US stands by Pakistan in solving the most important challenges facing the world and the world. region.
President Biden asserted that public health, economic development and education are a shared vision and “we will continue to move forward together.”
The letter further stated that Washington wants to further strengthen its alliance with Pakistan to improve the environment under the US-Pakistan Green Alliance framework.
Referring to the devastating floods in 2022, the US head of state said the country wants to continue supporting Islamabad in its efforts to rebuild, manage water and develop agriculture.
The letter to the Prime Minister stated that the US is committed to protecting human rights in Pakistan and promoting development together with the country, adding that the initiatives will strengthen the partnership between the two letters.
At the end of the letter, the US head of state said that the close relationship between the people of the two countries will further strengthen bilateral relations.
It is pertinent to mention that this is the first official communication from the Oval Office with the Prime Minister of Pakistan in years. During the tenure of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the US President ignored the then Prime Minister.
While Imran had hoped to revive high-level engagement with the US under Biden’s presidency, Washington has not reciprocated as relations between the two countries have deteriorated during Donald Trump’s presidency.
Although Imran visited the US in July 2019 at the invitation of then President Trump and also met him later on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, there has been no significant progress in bilateral relations.
