During the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit, diplomats and world leaders are concerned about the age and health of US President Joe Biden.
To defeat Donald Trump in the November 5 election, Biden must prove he is ready and strong at next week’s summit in Washington.
According to Politico, allies want Biden to run for a second term against Trump, but are concerned that he could defeat the former president in the upcoming election.
After the 81-year-old’s poor performance in the first presidential debate against Republicans, some European officials questioned Biden’s patience and leadership skills.
“It doesn’t take a genius to see that the president is getting old. However, we don’t believe he can live another four years,” he said.
“We all want a second term so that Biden doesn’t have to deal with Trump again, but that doesn’t guarantee it,” another EU official said.
In addition, NATO allies are concerned about how long Biden can maintain US defense support for Europe, as Trump is skeptical about supporting other countries.
“We are talking more about our defense,” a NATO official said after the discussion.
Despite all these problems, many allies prefer Biden over Trump, but are uncertain about Biden’s long-term future because of his age.
Democrats are reportedly calling for Biden to drop out of the race. However, the president has made it clear that he is committed to re-election.
