The University of Swat has officially launched its Monsoon Plantation Drive 2025 as part of the province-wide initiative directed by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to restore nature through the plantation of fruit-bearing and indigenous trees.
The drive commenced, at the main campus, where the Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Hassan Sher, inaugurated the campaign by planting a Citrus synesis sapling in Academic Block-C.
On the occasion, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the environmental, economic, and ecological benefits of tree plantation, particularly fruit trees, and called upon all Heads of Departments, faculty members, and students to participate actively in the campaign.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Hassan Sher highlighted the importance of environmental stewardship, stating: “Plantation is not just a symbolic gesture—it is a sustainable investment in the future of our region and our youth. With this initiative, we aim to create a greener, healthier, and more self-reliant environment.”
In line with the official directives from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has instructed all departments to undertake self-help-based tree plantation drives during the monsoon season. Each department head is expected to personally oversee the plantation activities and maintain pictorial records for official reporting and public awareness.
The University of Swat aims to plant approximately 600 fruit-bearing trees during this month-long drive. The initiative is being conducted in collaboration with the Local Government Swat, TMA Charbagh, and the Forest Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The plantation activities will continue across various university locations until the end of July 2025.
The University of Swat remains committed to promoting sustainability, environmental conservation, and community participation through such green initiatives.
