Islamabad: The UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan, Mr Mohammad Yahya, has called on the Majlis Group on Sustainable Development Goals, Mr Bilal Azhar Kayani, in the Majlis session.
Both sides discussed the current status of SDG implementation in Pakistan and the role of Parliament in achieving these goals. They also exchanged views on international best practices and their socio-economic relevance based on the current challenges facing Pakistan.
During the discussion, emphasis was placed on improving knowledge around the framework of the SDGs to actively help MPs during the legislative process and support the localization and implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
Underscoring Parliament’s commitment to play a constructive role in accelerating progress towards achieving the SDGs, the adviser said, “The Parliamentary Working Group on SDGs is committed to a sustainable future for all.” “The parliamentary task will complement the government’s efforts to ensure access to quality education, better health and develop strategies to combat climate change,” he added.
