Nowhere in the constitution of Pakistan is it written that any decision should be imposed on the people without the opinion of the people, nor is it written that the government can borrow loan whenever it wants without the consent of the people.
If someone says that the government is elected by the people, then he should know that the people elect any government for their welfare. They never give them the mandate to charge more interest and recover it from them in gas bills. People have been demanding not to take more loans for the last forty years.
Political parties themselves make these demands when they are in opposition. These days, talks are going on to take another program of loans from the International Monetary Fund, for which the government has absolutely no mandate and the people do not allow it to be burdened with more debt. In exchange for which they had to buy expensive gas and electricity and in case of not submitting those cruel bills, they had to go to jail.
According to the news negotiations are going on with the IMF, in which preparations are being made to increase the price of gas. A leading website has reported that the IMF mission has been given 3 plans to reduce the revolving debt of the gas sector, one of which will be agreed upon by the World Financial fund. It should be remembered that for negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) the federal government has started preparations to make gas more expensive for the domestic fertilizer, CNG and cement sector. 3 plans have been given to reduce revolving credit.
Proposals have been given to the IMF to increase the gas rates for fertilizer plants. Apart from this, the dividend scheme to reduce the revolving debt of the gas sector has also been discussed, while the data related to collections, reforms and tariffs have been provided to the IMF in a timely manner. Sources said that the IMF mission will be negotiations on tariff revolving credit and reforms for the gas sector.
In the share plan from the IMF, it is proposed to increase the gas rates from August. It is proposed to increase the bill for protected and non-protected consumers by Rs 100 to Rs 400.
Sources say that the IMF has proposed not to increase the gas rates for ovens as per the share plan. The question here is not that gas prices will be increased for which consumers, but why gas prices should be increased? The nation demands an answer to this question. The government will now have to tell the nation why it has no alternative program. Constitutionally and legally, it is not the mandate of any government to make anything hike in prices without providing facilities to the people, but every government is formed to work for the welfare of the people.
All the governments that have come in the last four decades have often break a promise those they made to the people during election campaigns and the current government is doing the same. In the last election campaign, the ruling coalition had promised to provide 300 units of free electricity to consumers, but now even expensive electricity is available only for a few hours, while the possibility of gas and electricity becoming more expensive is clearly visible.
It is a strange logic that on the one hand consumers are being made defaulters by making gas and electricity more expensive and on the other hand, operations against them are going on. Now, in these circumstances if the gas should made more expensive, then the consumers will be forced to cut the connections and those who are a little brave will not avoid to theft that Gas.
In such a situation the government will have to find a way to get rid of the curse of debt. Now is the time for the government to buy gas at cheap prices from neighboring countries that have abundant gas reserves without under pressure from allies at the global level. If decisions are not made keeping in mind the national interests, then the patience of the people has been exhausted, a glimpse of which we have seen in Kashmir recently.
