The Supreme Court of Pakistan has resolved a huge political issue through his decision in favor of the majority parties in the parliament house regarding specific seats. It should be remembered that the country was in political turmoil due to not giving electoral symbol to Tehreek-e-Insaf and then depriving it of specific seats.
The decision will advance democracy in the country which is seriously needed at this time. The Supreme Court of Pakistan has also declared that a party is not deprived of participating in the elections by losing the electoral symbol that is the reason why the Supreme Court has also declared Tehreek-e-Insaf eligible for reserve seats.
On Friday the Supreme Court ordered to give reserved seats for women and minorities to PTI. According to the court, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is a political party, therefore the non-observance of an election symbol does not prevent a political party from contesting the elections. The Supreme Court has declared the decision of the Election Commission and the Peshawar High Court to be set aside null and void on the request of the Sunni Unity Council regarding the reserve seats. It should be remembered that on Wednesday, a 13-member Larges Bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa heard the verdict. The decision of the case related to the specific seats of the Ittihad Council was reserved.
Along with Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Athar Manullah, Justice Ayesha Malik, Justice Shahid Waheed, Justice Azhar Hasan Rizvi were included in the larger bench.
Apart from this, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Jamal Mandukhel, Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Irfan Saadat, Justice Naeem Afghan and Justice Aminuddin were also part of the bench. The Chief Justice of Pakistan said that the decision on the request of the Sunni Unity Council is a majority decision of 8 which was written by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah. Remember that PML-N got 14 seats in the National Assembly, People’s Party got 5 seats and JUIF got 3 additional seats. The party got 7 seats and ANP got one additional seat. In addition, in the Punjab Assembly, the PML-N got 23 seats, the People’s Party got 2 seats, the Muslim League-Q and the Stability Pakistan got one seat each, while the People’s Party got two seats in the Sindh Assembly and MQM got a reserved additional seat.
Now that the decision has come in favor of Tehreek-e-Insaaf, all these seats will also be given to it again which has certainly strengthened its position in the House, while the pressure has increased on the Chief Election Commissioner to resign.
The main reason for this is that most of the political parties, including Tehreek-e-Insaf believe that since the said problem was caused due to the irresponsibility of the Election Commission, now the Chief Election Commissioner should resign morally. It remains to be seen what strategy the ruling parties adopt to deal with this new situation but it has been decided that the rulers will have to work harder to face the existing opposition and especially to maintain their unity. According to the observers who keep an eye on the country’s politics, there are already differences between the Muslim League (N) and the People’s Party which have been expressed by the leadership of the People’s Party.
Therefore now The Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif and his cabinet will have to keep their fingers crossed every step of the way. Readers knows that now a days Tehreek-e-Insaf is very close with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) thus If PTI, extends its hands of friendship to the People’s Party then it will be difficult for the present government of PMLN, to manage the affairs. Therefore it is necessary that the government in particular and the opposition in general have to show flexibility in order to avoid further political deadlock in the country. It is too early to say anything about the political affairs of Pakistan but it is certain that in the coming weeks there will be more turmoil in the politics of the country for which all political parties should be prepared so that instead of any autocracy in the country the journey towards democracy should be continued.
