Notice issued to hike electricity rates, unit cost goes up to Rs 48.84
Islamabad: The government has unleashed a power bomb on the public and issued a notice to hike electricity rates across Pakistan, including Karachi. The Energy Division issued a notice on the increase in the basic electricity tariff. An increase of up to 7.12 rupees in base tariff has been implemented for domestic consumers using up to 200 units per month. These consumers were exempted from this increase for three months only.
For other domestic consumers, the basic electricity tariff has been hiked, leading to an increase in unit cost up to Rs 48.84. For consumers using 201 to 300 units per month, the tariff has increased from Rs 7.12 to Rs 34.26. Those using 301 to 400 units will now pay Rs 39.15, up from Rs 7.02. For consumers using more than 700 units, the tariff has increased to Rs 48.84 from Rs 6.12.
Consumers using 401 to 500 units will pay Rs 41.36, while those using 501 to 600 units will pay Rs 42.78. Consumers using 601 to 700 units will pay Rs 43.92 per unit after an increase of Rs 6.12.
If taxes are added to electricity bills, the effective unit tariff will increase significantly compared to the mentioned rates.
For lifeline consumers using up to 50 units per month, the unit price will remain at Rs 3.95, while for those using 51 to 100 units, it will remain at Rs 7.74 per unit.
