London: Given the number of players making their injury comebacks, Erik ten Hag thinks he will finally select his best Manchester United lineup against Wolves on Thursday.
With victories over Newport in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday, Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, and Casemiro led United’s comeback to Premier League action at Molineux. Hampered by injuries, it was the first time the trio had started together since the second game of the season at Tottenham in August.
Harry Maguire also made a late cameo off the bench in the 4-2 triumph for his first game since December 12 suffering a groin ailment. Additionally, after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon’s goalkeeper Andre Onana will be available to play against Wolves.
Whether Marcus Rashford will feature after missing the Newport tie remains to be seen. After allegedly spending the night before at a nightclub in Belfast, Rashford reported feeling unwell on Friday. Ten Hag called the problem a “internal matter” that he would address.
But asked if the Wolves game could be the first time he played his strongest team, Ten Hag said: “It could be, potentially yeah. “We may be able to select a team from the roster that is most likely the strongest for the first time since I have been manager.”
United was eliminated from the Champions League during the group round, and they now occupy ninth place in the Premier League.
