LAHORE: Led by the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP), the glamping pods set up at the picturesque Patriata Top in New Murree have become a major attraction for tourists, marking a unique step to boost tourism in the Galyat region of Murree.
According to a TDCP spokesperson here on Thursday, these glamping modules, established four years ago, cater to the specific weather conditions of the area and offer modern residential facilities that attract numerous visitors and contribute significantly to income generation. In the last fiscal year (2023-24) alone, TDCP earned over Rs 467 crore on the Patriata chairlift and glamping pod.
TDCP sources point out that these luxury glamping pods, located in the middle of the forest, provide a unique blend of glamor and camping on one of the highest peaks of the Himalayas. The pods offer a charming and healthy environment that appeals to those seeking natural recreation. Available options include two-bed modules for two people and four-bed modules for four people, all equipped with comfortable beds, blankets, tables, modern equipment and hot water.
The TDCP restaurant in Patriata Top also attracts tourists by offering tasty, hygienic meals at reasonable prices. The restaurant includes a large hall for sitting and dining tables under umbrellas among tall, shady trees in the courtyard. Under the management of TDCP, five double and three four-bed rooms are available, which can accommodate a total of 22 people. The nightly rent is Rs 6,000 for a four-bed module and Rs 4,000 for a two-bed module.
In addition, TDCP has developed a beautiful walking trail for tourists and there are shops with regional products and a mosque.
Under the supervision of TDCP’s General Manager of Operations, Wahid Arjuman Zia, the glamping pods, located 40 kilometers from Islamabad and at an altitude of 7,500 feet in the Himalayas, are accessible by land route, chairlift and ropeway. This initiative not only offers unique recreational opportunities, but also generates revenue for the department and provides a vital source of income for thousands of residents in the surrounding villages.
