ISTANBUL: Federal Minister of Information, Broadcasting, Heritage and National Culture Attaullah Tarar visited the headquarters of Turkish national TV station TRT World on Friday to discuss media cooperation between the two countries.
In a meeting with the Director General of International Broadcasting TRT Umar Farouk Tanriverdi, he discussed other issues of interest to each other, such as the production of documentaries together with the mass media, and the development of tourism.
Pakistan attaches importance to its fraternal relationship with Turkey, saying that the relationship between the two countries is based on history and common religious and cultural values.
“The agreement for co-production of dramas and documentaries with the Turkish government is part of our strategic framework.”
The Minister said that there is huge talent in both the countries.
He spoke specifically about Pakistani youth Arshad Nadeem, who set a record of 92.97 meters in the javelin throw at the Summer Olympics. Arshad said that Nadeem has an inspiring story and that a documentary can be made on young people which is very good.
Shandur Polo Festival in Pakistan was also discussed during the meeting.
“Shandur Polo Festival not only promotes tourism and culture but also sports. Shandur Polo Festival is the premier polo game in the world,” he said.
In collaboration with PTV World, Shandur said that a documentary film on the Polo festival will be shown around the world.
The minister said that PTV and TRT World could come to an agreement and lectures conducted by TRT World could be broadcast on Pakistan Television.
He said that the common culture and religious values between Pakistan and Turkey are the reasons why Turkish dramas and documentaries are popular in Pakistan.
The Information Minister also raised the issue of occupied Jammu and Kashmir in the meeting.
The minister also said that there is a need to make a digital documentary on the atrocities committed in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
