Tarbela Ghazi (Report by Abid Ali Khan)
Renowned political and social figure, former Deputy General Secretary of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Haripur district, Syed Akhtar Hussain Shah, has criticized the federal government for favoring select individuals, stating that the decision to expand the federal cabinet will further burden the national economy. He emphasized that increasing the size of the cabinet will not improve the country’s situation.
He pointed out that since assuming power, the government has repeatedly claimed to be following an austerity policy, yet its actions contradict these assertions. Expanding the federal cabinet directly translates into increased government expenditures, which will necessitate further borrowing to sustain the additional financial burden on the national treasury.
In his statement, he lamented that successive governments have failed to formulate a concrete strategy to address the pressing challenges facing the country. He further criticized state stakeholders for prioritizing personal and familial interests by adopting Western lifestyles, which has led to the rise of a privileged class benefiting from state resources. Despite the passage of seven decades, he asserted, Pakistan has yet to develop a comprehensive economic policy for national progress.
