SWAT: The Swat River Saving Movement called for the destruction of the beauty, aquatic life and economy of the Swat valley under the guise of hydropower projects and demanded a review from the government.
If the government tries to impose a decision by force. They will start a resistance movement.
These views were expressed by the leaders of the Swat river saving movement, Inamullah, Irfan Khan, Khan Saeed, Zubair Torwali and Ghulam Hussain while holding a press conference at the Swat Press Club here on Sunday.
On this occasion, the elders of the area were also present in large numbers.
They said that the provincial government has announced four-hydropower projects from Kalam valley to Madyan with the assitance of the World Bank and a regular survey has also been conducted in this regard. Under which four tunnels will be constructed at different places, which we do not accept in any case.
They said that the government had previously destroyed Daral Khwar, irrigation channels, agriculture, tourism and economy by constructing Daral Khwar hydropower under the auspices of Pedo. For this reason, we cannot allow the Swat River to be destroyed any longer.
They further said that due to these anti-people projects, not only the beauty of the river Swat will be destroyed but also the natural springs and waterfalls will be destroyed.
“Swat’s tourism, irrigation, agriculture are also feared to be severely damaged while there will also be extinction of aquatic life, added that on this basis, we demand the authorities of the provincial government, the World Bank and Pedo to desist from these anti-people projects,
otherwise, the Swat River Saving Movement will start a resistance movement against it, and protest demonstrations will be held in Peshawar and Islamabad, including Swat,” They clarified.
